Meet Chip, the 16 month old Jack Russell.
Chip was signed over to us in December due to his guarding behaviours. He will become heavily attached to one person in the household and will guard them when visitors come around. Chip will need ongoing help from a behaviourist to overcome this issue and would benefit from a household with multiple adults who are all able to commit to a training plan. Once Chip understands his new routine he will surely settle down well, as he is still young and has plenty of capability to learn.
Chip has been on foster with a view to adopt three while in our care and has been returned for his behaviors. Therefore we are looking for a home with plenty of experience with the JRT breed and dogs with behavioural issues. Chip needs a lot of time and commitment from his new owners to settle into a new home and will not be perfect straight away. His new owners should be confident in being able to handle a dog with guarding behaviours and be prepared for the extra time he will need to work on his anxieties.
Chip will not be rehomed with resident or visiting children of any age or experience due to his behaviour issues. We feel for Chip to have the best chance to overcome his nerves he will do best in a rural home without visitors and busy spaces right outside the door. Chip may benefit from living with another confident neutered dog based on introductions.
If your application is successful you will be invited to meet Chip. If you do not hear anything within 7 days please assume that your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. Due to the high volume of applications we receive we are unable to respond to everyone.
