Introducing our Little red , a 6-8 month old long haired dachshund. This beauty arrived in our care very scared and shut down, she had no idea where she was and is finding it hard in kennels. It’s clear that Little Red hasn’t been exposed much to the outside world, at first she didn’t want to walk/didn’t know how to and our volunteers had to carry her away from kennels so that she could get some exercise and fuss.
Despite this, she has had a few confidence building sessions with our behaviour team and with the help and support of all the staff and volunteers this little sausages personality is starting to shine through! Red is now able to go on (and enjoy) walks , she loves to sniff all the smells possible and has a little play zoomie here and there when she gets excited. She can still be worried about loud noises and new things, but she is building her resilience and confidence and we are sure that with a supportive and committed owner she will be a bundle of energy and fun.
When Little Red trusts you, she is so affectionate. She can take a little while to warm up but once she does she likes to wriggle into you like a worm and snuggle up with her arms around you. We believe she could live with a calm and confident resident neutered dog depending on introductions, it would be lovely to have a pal to show her the ropes. She could also potentially live with cats and calm children 10+ that are dog savvy.
