If you lose a dog

If you lose your dog we are here to help

As soon as you are aware that your dog is missing ring Cardiff Dogs Home on 02920 711243 we will take all the details and advise you what to do next.

It is possible your dog has been brought into the home or that someone has reported seeing your dog.

You can also call your local Veterinary Surgery in case your dog has been injured and someone has taken it there.

You should also inform the microchip database that your dog is registered with.

Please be aware that there is a daily charge for food, lodgings, medical attention and vaccination costs, as well as a statutory fine. This will be a minimum of £40 if your dog is brought into the home.

If you think we might have your dog please contact us as soon as possible. You will be asked to come along to the dogs’ home with proof of ownership e.g., microchip number, vaccination record, pedigree papers or a photograph of your dog.

We keep dogs for seven days after which they become the property of Cardiff Dogs Home and we will then find them a new home. We do take applications from interested people in the meantime, so make sure you contact us as soon as you can.

Spread the word locally

If your dog is not with us and we haven’t had a report about it, we will take your details in case it comes in at a later date.
In the meantime it would be worth widening your search.

  • Talk to your neighbours
  • Use social media
  • Walk the route you normally take your dog, they may just have decided to take themselves for a walk
  • Put up posters in your local area describing your pet carefully and use a recent photograph.
