Meet Xena, a beautiful 2-3 year old Dutch Shepherd mix, ready to find her forever home. She is a gentle and affectionate girl who loves leaning in for cuddles and fuss with the people she trusts.
Xena is a clever and energetic girl who thrives when she has a purpose. She enjoys training games, toys, and a strong game of tug, and she responds very well to food- and toy-motivated training. She also uses her bite pillow to help release stress around triggers, which helps her stay calm and focused.
Being a Dutch Shepherd mix, Xena would love to have a “job” to do, whether that’s through dog sports, obedience, scent work, or other activities that challenge her mind and energy. Giving her a task each day will keep her happy, fulfilled, and well-balanced.
Xena can be reactive to traffic, so she will need committed humans who can continue her lead training with patience, consistency, and understanding. She prefers quieter areas with minimal traffic and plenty of green space, where she can enjoy safe, stress-free walks exploring on lead. She would also benefit from visits to a secure, enclosed dog field once or twice a week to let her hair down and release energy safely.
Xena travels well in a secure crate in the car and would benefit from continued work on her travel anxiety to make journeys more comfortable and calm.
In the right home, Xena could potentially live with a chill, playful dog of a similar size. She could possibly live with children aged 16 and over, depending on introductions and her comfort level. Xena has passed a cat test at the centre, so she could potentially live with felines, though this will need careful management while everyone settles into a new routine and adjusts to the change in household dynamics.
After a busy day of mental stimulation and activity, Xena loves to relax, share cuddles, and enjoy playtime with her humans. She would thrive in a home where she can have regular activities, a meaningful job, clear guidance, and lots of love. Xena is ready to be a devoted companion, loyal friend, and joyful addition to the right family.
