Unfortunately, our handsome boy Mr Red has been returned to our care after spending around six months in a home. This was through no fault of his own, but due to a change in his owners’ circumstances.
Mr Red is a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois who, despite his breed, is a surprisingly chillaxed and well-mannered boy. He absolutely loves his adventures and long walks, but he’s equally happy to settle and enjoy a quieter pace at home. He is housetrained, good with adults and children, and has previously lived with a cat.
Red is incredibly smart and already knows a range of tricks. He thrives when given something to do and would love to take part in activities such as obedience, agility, or scentwork to keep his mind busy and fulfilled. He walks beautifully on the lead, enjoys long hikes with our volunteers, and has earned the nickname “the perfect gentleman.” His favourite games include tug and football, and he has a real soft spot for his tennis balls!
In his previous home, Mr Red showed some signs of separation anxiety, particularly towards one person. He is very handler-focused and forms strong bonds, so his new home will need to have someone around most of the time who can continue to support and work on this.
It was also mentioned that he may show some resource guarding around food. While we have not seen this behaviour in kennels or foster, it is something adopters should be mindful of. Feeding him separately and giving him space while eating will help manage this. Due to this, we would look to place him with dog-savvy children aged 14+. Ongoing training or classes would be beneficial both for building his confidence and maintaining his great manners.
Mr Red has also spent time in a foster home, where he has continued to shine. He settled well into home life, enjoying lots of walks, playtime, and relaxing evenings. He can be a little sensitive to loud or unusual noises but finds comfort in his toys and human company. At home, he loves a lie-in in the morning, cuddles before breakfast, and curling up in the evening—often with a little comfort suck on his bed. He is fully housetrained, gentle in the home, and only a little “shouty” when the doorbell goes!
He is an active boy who will need two good walks a day, along with mental stimulation to keep his clever mind engaged. He would suit a home where someone is present most of the time, as he can become stressed when left alone.
Mr Red is a truly special dog who just needs the right home to help him feel secure, settled, and loved. With the right guidance and commitment, he will make an incredibly loyal and rewarding companion.
💛 Good boy, Mr Red
